WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — Spa franchise MassageLuXe has opened a second location in the Ann Arbor area, making it the sixth in Michigan.
The new location opened Saturday, Oct. 3 at 160 S. Zeeb Road, Suite B, in Scio Township, and is operated by Raj Nijjar, who worked in physical therapy for 14 years,, according to a news release. The first MassageLuXe in the area opened in May 2019 at 2222 S. Main St. in Ann Arbor.
The spa offers massages, facial and waxing services.
“We spent a lot of time building the brand in that market and we feel it is large enough to support more than one location,” Sean Rentchler, MassageLuXe director of franchise development, said in an email. “The franchisee, Mr. Nijjar, knows the market well and is in his spas on a daily basis. He is intimately involved with supporting his employees and customers. He has actually signed a multi-unit development agreement and will likely continue to expand in the market.”
The new spa is expected to employ up to 30 employees, including front desk representatives and therapists, Rentchler said. Despite the Ann Arbor area holding numerous massage spas, Rentchler said MassageLuXe differentiates from othesr “in a way that will continue to strengthen the brand.”
“We have flexible memberships to offer customers,” Rentchler said. “Our owners make it a priority to treat all their customers like VIPs and we are more active in our local communities. We want to help them live a healthier lifestyle.”
The company is expected to expand to more than 250 locations across the nation in the next five years, according to the release. It currently operates 69 centers nationwide and has locations in Troy, Novi, West Bloomfield and Birmingham.
“MassageLuXe is the leading luxury spa in the Ann Arbor area,” Nijjar said “We offer top-of-the-line products and services from licensed massage therapists. The MassageLuXe membership business model is another great feature of this brand.”
Employees will follow strict cleaning guidelines and will screen customers, who are required to enter with a mask. Rentchler said.
