The Centers for Disease Control report face masks can help people from spreading coronavirus to others. Here are the do’s and don’ts.
Corpus Christi’s health and wellness program Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront will return Saturday, Aug. 8 to continue fitness activities for all ages and skill levels.
To increase physical activity and promote a healthier Corpus Christi, City Manager Peter Zanoni created the event to take place along the Corpus Christi Bayfront on June 6. A month later, the program was postponed because of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the area.
“Everyone in our community is strongly encouraged to use all preventative measures and that includes exercising,” Zanoni said. “Exercise may help protect against COVID-19 complications. Our goal is to have a community of healthy residents who will reap the benefits of a healthy lifestyle by taking advantage of our natural environment for their outdoor fitness.”
To participate, facial coverings will be required for ages 10 and older and temperature checks will be given at sign-in. Activities will be from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Water’s Edge and will continue every Saturday in August. Participants are also eligible to receive giveaway rewards.
For children 12 and under to be in the Kids Zone, face coverings are recommended but not required. The Kids Zone will feature an obstacle course, noodle hockey and scoop ball.
Other activities include the Fitness Lane where people can walk, jog, run or bike in a designated 1.25-mile lane from Cole Park to Lawrence Street. Registration is not required for this activity and will help reduce overcrowding of sidewalks while enabling social distancing of at least six feet while exercising.

An expanded fitness lane has been created along Ocean Drive to Shoreline Boulevard that will temporarily close northbound traffic from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. for residents to walk, jog, run or bike along the bayfront from Cole Park to the Art Center of Corpus Christi.
Check-in, the Kids Zone and the Fitness Lane will be at McCaughan Park, while Zumba and yoga will be at the Islanders Pavilion.
