Physical fitness is the ability to be physically active, to move and respond to the environment. People can take various tests to measure their physical performance. Such tests are necessary for some occupations, such as soldiers and firefighters.
Physical fitness has two components: general fitness (a state of health and well-being) and specific fitness (the ability to perform specific aspects of sports or occupations).
The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports — a study group sponsored by the United States Government — declines to offer a simple definition of physical fitness. Instead, it developed the following chart:
|Physiological||Health related||Skill related||Sports|
|Metabolic||Body composition||Agility||Team sport|
Health related components: those factors that are related to how well the systems of your body work.

She is a dentist who usually makes house calls to the homebound elderly in Manhattan, but these days, it’s all about tele-dentistry and giving out masks.
“It’s just a simple surgical mask,” she said, “The ones all dentists use commonly.”
She was proactive when it came to her patients and their caregivers.
“In early March I was telling all of the caregivers, ‘You need to start wearing a mask, you’re traveling on public transportation, you’re taking care of sick people,'” Dr. Kauffman said.
And then she started giving them away.

That changed the subject to dentistry. I said I believed the average man dreaded tooth-pulling more than amputation, and that he would yell quicker under the former operation than he would under the latter.
But the surgeons soon changed that; they instituted open-air dentistry. There never was a howl afterward–that is, from the man who was having the tooth pulled.

The secret to getting fit for free is to use every opportunity to be active.
Walking is one of the easiest ways to get more activity into your day, lose weight and become healthier. Research shows people who fit moderate activity, such as walking, into their daily life burn more energy than those who make weekly visits to the gym.
Try to fit walking into your routine by not using the car for short journeys, walking all or part of your journey to work, getting off the bus or train one stop early, and planning longer walks at the weekends.

Some gyms across the nation are closing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t workout. Planet Fitness, one of the nation’s largest chain gyms, is offering free online classes starting today, because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The at-home workouts began streaming on the company’s Facebook page March 16. These classes are open to anyone, including non-members.
“Our daily routines have changed in unexpected ways, and we know that people may not be able to get to the gym. That’s why we’re offering a free, daily virtual fitness class for everyone on Planet Fitness’ Facebook page from Monday through Friday,” said Jeremy Tucker, chief marketing officer of Planet Fitness, in a statement to USA TODAY.
The workouts will be live-streamed at 7 p.m. ET each day for the next two weeks. And if you can’t make it live, the workouts will be available on-demand on Facebook and in Planet Fitness’ YouTube channel.
