Hospital says critical, leaders tweet condolences

Ashok Gasti, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP in Rajya Sabha from Karnataka is in critical condition at a private hospital in Bengaluru where he is being treated for Covid-19. A first-time member of parliament, Gasti was elected to Rajya Sabha in June of this year.

He is undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at a private hospital in Bengaluru where he was admitted after testing positive for the virus on September 2.

It was earlier reported that Gasti succumbed to Covid-19 and multiple leaders, including the President, the Vice President and Lok Sabha Speaker, even put out condolence messages. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) asked the Congress-led government in Punjab on Thursday to improve medical facilities rather than blaming people for reporting late to hospitals amid rising coronavirus cases and deaths.

The remarks come after Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Wednesday said that delayed diagnosis in patients reporting for testing or treatment at the COVID facilities was the main cause of the high mortality rate.

He had also said that 67 per cent of all COVID deaths were due to patients reporting at the health facility for the first time after suffering severe signs and symptoms.
